12 hours at Wimbledon after 4 hours of wait – oh what a beautiful day
Bottomline: Reached well in time to get in for Court 2, which was the best court for the day’s matches anyway; was lucky enough to get court-side seats 5 mts from the players seats; and saw the women’s world number 1 seal outperform her opponent; saw Tommy Haas come back from a 1-6 first set through some consistent tennis and angry cursing outburts and saw Martina Hingis totally out of sorts but still with her cute smile.
If there’s a mecca for tennis, this is it; and man was the 4.40 am getting up worth it; sucky worth throughout the 4 hour wait but great weather for almost the entire playing day.
And then for company I had two great classmates Iris and Miki; Miki, as usual, slept. Yes, at courtside in Wimbledon court 2 she slept through the first couple of action-packed sets of Tommy Haas vs. Dmitry Tursunov; woken only when the clap got too loud to disturb her rhythym. And if you would have seen Tursunov win the first set, you would know what good power tennis is – that guy, once just a bit more consistent, is destined for big things.
For me though, I just kept saying excitedly to everyone “we are at Wimbledon baby”
Shopped a memorabilia for my lady who is coming next week; had strawberries & cream (of course) and bougth stools to sit down while waiting in queues —- “its Wimbledon baby”
Believe me the atmosphere trumps everything; maybe, perhaps, even the Olympics where I have been to
